The second lot of County finals for the Dynamos cricket teams from Years 5 & 6 took place this week at Stratfield Brake Sports Ground in Kidlington.
The Years 5 & 6 girls team took on teams from St Thomas More and Aston & Cote schools in their group. Despite some good batting displays and great determination in the field, both results didn't go in their favour and they finished 3rd in their group. A final match against Chesterton finished the day and they ended in joint 6th overall.
The Year 6 boys team played against teams from Fritwell, The Batt and Stanford in the Vale schools in the group stages. Three solid wins meant they finished the group in 1st place. An extremely tight semi-final against Wychwood finished in a narrow defeat for team BLS. Their final game was for 3rd place and it was against Hill View - again a close game, but this time it finished with a BLS win. All players came away with a T-shirt and certificate. So, 6th and 3rd in the County Finals - what an amazing day! A huge thank you must go to Mrs Dray and Mrs Woodworth who helped transport the pupils to and from the event.

What a scorcher of an afternoon we had at the North Oxfordshire Quadkids finals on Wednesday! Our winning team from the cluster event took part in the year 3/4 finals. Competing against schools from Banbury, Bicester & Kidlington areas in a 400m run, vortex throw, 50m sprint and a standing long jump, they all showed amazing determination, resilience and kindness towards their fellow competitors. We finished 6th overall, which was a very well-deserved result. The whole team represented Bishop Loveday beautifully and were a pleasure to take to the event. All participants received a certificate congratulating them on participating.
Our Year 5 boys team competed at the county cricket finals this week. Spending the day at St Edwards School in Oxford was the reward for winning our cluster final earlier in the term. We played some very good cricket teams from schools around the county. A close finish against Tower Hill and harder games against Goring and The Blake schools saw us going into our final game against Hill View without a win. But, showing great determination until the end, brought BLS a narrow win to finish a really enjoyable day of cricket. Well done boys for showing your perseverance throughout the day. Everyone came away with a t-shirt and certificate for finishing 7th overall.
Some of our Year 3 children attended a multi skills festival at BGN this week. They were joined by our Year 6 BGN transition leaders who, following their training last week, helped lead the various activities for children from Bishop Loveday, St Joseph's, Longford Park, St John's and William Morris schools. The activities included: Parachute games, sprinting, tennis skills, long jump, archery, tag games, relays & howler throws. Everyone had a lovely morning and thoroughly enjoyed all the activities.
The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.
We are so proud to have bounced back after the disruption of COVID to be able to offer such a broad range of opportunities for our pupils, not only at school during PE lessons and extra curriculum clubs, but also in competitive situations both within school and against other schools at external events. Our thanks goes to NOSSP for their support in helping us achieve this with their comprehensive competition calendar.
